(AP Photo/Ted S. Warren) reported in The Times of Israel, Survey finds 3 in 10 Republicans believe QAnon child sex-trafficking theory. 15 February 2021.
In addition to crediting the photographer, the paper has this further comment to the photo,  "A person dressed as Lady Liberty wears a shirt with the letter Q, referring to QAnon, as protesters take part in a protest, Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021, at the Capitol in Olympia, Wash., against the counting of electoral votes in Washington, DC, affirming President-elect Joe Biden's victory."

Without the uniform nothing wrong, but with it  . . . ?
Cheers, Phil Cave.

It all depends. Need more facts, specifically the exact status of the person shown.

There is certainly a potential violation of DoD Directive 1344.10, but once again it all depends. Need more facts.

I am unfamiliar with the various badges and what not the US Army authorizes, but at least one (USV above right pocket) suggests the chaplain pictured is a veteran, and not on active duty or in the reserves. One can embiggen the photo by following the link provided by Mr. Cave. There is a chaplain by the same name at an American Legion post in Washington state.

To sum up, no violation of the Hatch Act (does not apply to military by its terms (5 USC 7322(1)(B)). Potential violation of DoDD 1344.10, but need more facts.

All things considered though, perhaps not the best idea. Mixing one's service with politics can help (US Grant, Eisenhower, Sen. Duckworth, among others), but it can also blow back and bite you. Depends on which way the wind is blowing. Just ask John Kerry.

Kind regards,
CS

That is not a U.S. Military uniform. That is the made up uniform of The United States Volunteer - Joint Services Command. https://usvjsc.org/pages/
They are a 501(c)(19) non profit Veterans Organization...kind of like the VFW or American Legion. Only, you don't have to be a veteran to join. Their main purpose, is supposed to be providing honor guards for funerals of veterans, but will preform military style humor guard for anyone. Primarily for former members of groups like the Civil Air Patrol who aren't eligible for military honors. They claim to trace roots to the U.S. Volunteers of the late 1800s of Teddy Roosevelt fame, which they don't. They popped up around 2012, and have fought with the Veterans Administration for their status. The majority of members, and especially their leadership, are made up of Vietnamese Americans. No idea why. Their website is very poorly designed and doesn't give out much info. They are linked to Promise Christian University, a non accredited diploma mill. Who supposedly does their official "Chaplin Training". Which appears anyone can sign up, pay, and be designated a "Chaplain". Not sure if their Vietnamese connection is with the Promise Christian University, or just took off in the Vietnamese community across the US.
