Since CAAF handles criminal cases, what criminal experience does Prof. Johnson have? Her specialty in the JAG was international and national security law, and her post-military experience appears to be light on criminal law. When is the last time she served in a military justice billet?

She’ll have more knowledge of military criminal law than most the other judges that are on the court. Looks like a solid pick!

CLJ is getting at the larger issue that a 20 year JAG career may mean only two or three years in MJ.

I find this nomination disappointing. What about the administration's commitment to nominating public defenders? What this court needs is an injection of civilian cj expertise from someone who is not afraid to say "no" to the government. I doubt that Ms. Johnson, who has worked for the government almost her entire life, will provide either. Of course, this is only a prediction. One never knows how her service will turn out.
