This story from "The War Horse News" from February. Thoughts?

Updated: apparently the Ohu case is now big news today. See this Task and Purpose article:

"Ohu’s story is a complicated one and touches on a range of issues that the military is grappling with, from sexual assault, to mental health care, and how commanders respond to troops in a crisis. Experts say it is also a glaring example of the ways that the military justice system sometimes caves to the power wielded by individual commanders."

How is this particularly sensationalized story relevant 5-6 months later?

Isn't yesterday's CA action, or the 2 month old verdict, more relevant?

A sensational story maybe. But I don't think that it's correct about investigation of a defense. It seems like there was a Marine TDS office that got searched a few years ago. Something about evidence the defense was trying to examine.

I don’t have a problem with the article, other than I think it is unfair and misleading about Maj Evans. I believe we should take into account trauma and life circumstances and show leniency more often. I do wonder if the facts were the same but the accused was male if there would be the same outcry. I think accountability should be gender neutral.

It's relevant because she got convicted and got the Big Chicken Dinner! Not to mention that she plead guilty.

Other than obviously newsworthy cases (mass-murder and the like), it appears to be random which cases get regular or social media attention. When it happens the participants are often confused as to “why this case when there are ten others just like it.” That doesn’t matter. When the case has gotten attention you have to adjust fire. Otherwise you could end up having your name in print in ways you may not like.

The judge's recommendation might not have been so important as the SJA's. If the SJA has a senior prosecutor running amok, then he has to save face. Best drop the issue and get rid of the problem, kind of thing.

Maybe we shouldn't remove the Commander. We should remove the SJA. Recent poll suggest a high percentage of the population supportive of Commander removal Events like this make that sound reasonable.
